Problem
An outdated process lacking digital convenience
Punjabi women often need custom-fit traditional suits for cultural and personal events, but the tailoring process is time-consuming, inconsistent, and largely offline. Most local shops rely on in-person fittings and manual measurements, creating barriers for customers seeking precision and accessibility. The lack of a digital solution made it difficult to modernize this deeply rooted tradition.
Solution
An AI-powered tailoring experience that feels effortless
I designed an intuitive e-commerce experience that brings custom tailoring online through AI-powered body measurement. The platform guides users through photo-based scanning with clear prompts, countdowns, and visual aids to ensure accuracy. From instructional screens to result reviews, every step was crafted to build confidence, privacy, and personalization. The result is a seamless process that combines tradition with technology — empowering women to order perfectly fitted suits from anywhere.
Understanding users and their cultural needs Through interviews and surveys, I uncovered that users valued the trust and familiarity of their neighborhood tailors but wanted the ease of online shopping. This insight shaped the foundation for an AI-powered solution that could preserve cultural authenticity while improving convenience. The research also informed features like privacy options and visual scanning guidance for better user comfort and accuracy.
Research & Insights
Crafting a confident, AI-driven tailoring experience I designed an intuitive flow centered on transparency and control from photo-based scanning to results verification. Key product areas included the instruction screen (guiding angles and lighting), the scanning interface (with silhouette alignment and countdowns), the results review screen (for face privacy and retakes), and the questionnaire form (to fine-tune measurements). The interface balanced modern UX patterns with a cultural design aesthetic to build trust and comfort for first-time digital users.
Design & Solution
Alongside the product experience, I developed a small-scale brand identity to give Silai a distinct, approachable presence. This included refining the logo, color palette, and typography to reflect cultural authenticity while feeling modern and digital-friendly. The visual identity carried through the platform and marketing touchpoints, helping users immediately recognize and trust the brand, even in its early-stage launch.
Brand Identity
I began with low-fidelity wireframes to define the core flow from taking photos to reviewing measurements. These early sketches helped visualize user actions and identify friction points before diving into visuals. Through multiple iterations, I refined layouts, spacing, and hierarchy to make the process feel effortless and trustworthy. Each round of feedback informed subtle adjustments in interactions, tone, and structure, ensuring the final design balanced clarity, usability, and warmth.
Process
As the lead UX designer, I shaped Silai’s vision from research to prototype, blending empathy, storytelling, and emerging technology into one cohesive experience. This project challenged me to think beyond design conventions, adapting to cultural nuance while solving a complex accessibility problem. It strengthened my confidence in leading user-centered innovation and deepened my appreciation for how thoughtful design can modernize traditions without erasing them.
I learned a lot from you, and I'm very lucky because you were a perfect fit for the role :)
